Plymouth University's Changing Places workshop

Last week Year 12 Geographers took part in Plymouth University's Changing Places workshop.

Professor Richard Yarwood gave the keynote lecture, outlining the geographical concepts of place and space and why it is important to study them. Our students were able to work with academic staff to trial different data collection methods. They used sense survey maps to measure people's sense of place and considered how and why individuals record different scores. Students also coded the 1895 Eyre's trade directory and cross-referenced their findings against Google Street View to ascertain how land use within the Barbican has changed over time.
